We are 2

We are 2, it is our 2nd birthday, hooray!

The time has flown by. We’ve been creating video content for lots of interesting people. Lots of miles traveling up and down the country to get to some great destinations. Planning calls, zoom chats, travelling to film shoots, overnight stays, early starts, late finishes, long drives back into the night. We’ve flown the drone in cities and in the country. We’ve had rain and we’ve had sun. But it has all been worth it.

Roll on the next 2 years!

Leeds 2023

It was great to hear about the plans for Leeds 2023, a chance for the city to showcase its culture and people. Local personality Sanchez Payne spoke passionately about the opportunity for the city. ‘Everyone speaks culture but sometimes people don’t have a voice’ – but hopefully Leeds 2023 will give everyone in the city the chance to get involved.

Turning Lives Around

It was wonderful to work with the inspiring folks at Turning Lives Around this week. Based in Leeds they help individuals who are vulnerable and at the margins of society develop life and practical skills to set them on a new path. They inspire people to believe that change and recovery are possible and that they hold the keys to turning their lives around.

It was great to learn a little about this organisation that is making a difference. Check out their website for more information www.turninglivesaround.co.uk

Creating content for all organisations is important, but it is vital for charities to get their messages and purpose across and cut-through. Telling stores through video production works.

Lifted

It was great to spend time at www.grafthaus.co.uk gym recently for www.brawn.co.uk

The clever people at Brawn have put together an in-gym experience that allows gym members to record and upload their progress. This is displayed on screens around the gym and allows both friendly competitions and shout-outs for prizes.

Community challenges are also part of the fun so a gym can try to reach an overall target together.

www.leedvideoproduction.co.uk were there to film some ‘how to’ videos and produce content.

The Graft Haus is a brilliant gym located off Kirkstall Road. Loads of gear, nice friendly staff, you couldn’t ask for more in a gym.

Where are you from?

When we are somewhere else in the country filming corporate videos, we often get asked about Leeds. So here are a few fun facts to those who don’t know the city.

In 1984, during the building of the Armley Gyratory road, the bones of an ancient hippo were discovered. It is believed to date back around 130,000. You can see the remains at Leeds City Museum.

Leeds has given the world a host of literary giants. Alan Bennett is perhaps the most well-known, with ‘Talking Heads’ a cornerstone of British playwriting. Barbara Taylor Bradford sold over 30 million copies of ‘A Woman of Substance’. Tony Harrison wrote poems like ‘V’ and Arthur Ransome penned ‘Swallows and Amazons’ right here in Leeds.

The famous Leeds West Indian Carnival has been running longer than any other in Europe (even longer than Notting Hill Carnival). It started in 1967 and it’s still going strong today. It happens on August bank holiday weekend.

Leeds United were the first club to retail replica shirts. This happened back in 1975 when they bought extra kits to sell to their fans.
The kit was an all white shirt based on the design of Real Madrid.

The first British internet service provider was founded in Leeds. Back then it was called Freeserve. It was bought by a French Telecom firm called Wannadoo for £1.65 billion. Then in 2004, Freeserve was rebranded as Wannadoo UK. Today, it is known as EE’s broadband service.

Building a bright future

Working filming at a construction site recently we were reflecting on how work environments have improved. This particular job was on a new house development site and it was clear that their standards and procedures were top notch.

Everyone who we dealt with, on-site, sales, reception, contractors were pleasant and helpful. It was a pleasure to be there and congratulations to Redrow for running a really great operation (www.redrow.co.uk)

We do corporate video for residential and commercial, for brands, agencies and house builders. This includes show home, drone work, time lapse and marketing which can include special effects.

Four seasons in one day

We have been caught out by the weather on occasion. As an outdoor filming date starts to get close we will be daily checking our weather app to see how things are looking.

For corporate video work, outdoor filming looks so much better than indoor. We take lights to most shoots but room lighting is hard to control, and often there is some reason why certain windows or doors cannot be covered up.

Flexibility is needed to swap a schedule around to take into account whatever weather front is rolling in. Modern kit today can withstand some moisture, but filming in an all out downpour never looks good, unless that is the look you want. The Weather and climate change – Met Office is our friend.

A site visit in advance is also helpful so we have a couple of options to get what you need filmed. For drone flying we check in advance any local restrictions that might be in place.

Then there is sport…If the event isn’t called off, then you just have to get the shots….

Promoting Retail

If you are a retailer you need to have good quality video content. Having helpful images on your social media channels will promote footfall and sales.

Customers expect to become part of a community when they buy from a retailer, and watch relevant content on social media channels.

We produced a short video for Lions Tiles who are based in Leeds who wanted something to showcase the style and range of their stock. Filmed in 4K their bright colourful tiles really came to life. Don’t let poor quality images hold you back, show yourself at your best and get customers coming through the door.

Video drone work

Drones are a common site, but you have to be careful not to fall foul of the law. LVP have been flying drones professionally for over 4 years.

Houses, factories and other commercial buildings can be difficult to see from the ground, so we assist businesses with our qualified and insured drone service. This particular job was to help the client find the source of a roof leak.

Filming video in 4K the camera picks up all the detail needed for an initial assessment. The pictures and video can be shared with specialists prior to visiting to give them a head start on problem solving. There are many regulations about flying drones and doing so safely. No commercial work can be undertaken by anyone without insurance so make sure you ask this question.

Drone filming can bring something cinematic to a corporate video, although you have to get u early or stay light to get the best light.
